I was getting pumped for the re-make due out next summer until I heard about the story line. It sounds like it will be a totally different plot then the original. I think they could have expanded on the origin l and still had a kick ass movie. Especially with the way special effects are. I guess we'll have to wait & see. Yes, you are correct in noting that McDowell did not reprise his role as Cornelius in THIS movie, BUT, he DOES appear at the very beginning - the recap of the movie scence at the beach - it is from the first movie and therefore McDOwell is in each and every movie. Its a trick question, certainly, but the fact is McDowell is in Beneath... if only by way of inserting a scene from Planet.... |

He was busy directing his film "Tam Lin" (which at first was completely changed when it was released. The original was released a couple years ago). I doubt he did just the voice, ei her. The scene where the mutant governor tells the girl with the accent that if the human army does not defeat the apes, she should launch their atomic missle. 2. The scene at the end where the male mutant talks the girl out of launching the missle, indicating that their progeny will become the telepaths seen in Beneath... Check the cast information on Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Roddy McDowell was not and I repeat not in that movie...Another actor who sounded like McDowell took Roddy's place for that one. Roddy even mentioned this in several interviews..the fact that this other guy did a good job filling his shoes. It seems Roddy had other obligations. You'll see when you look at the credits that you'll be quite surprised. Few people know that..I was su prised when I learned it too. |

At the time Beneath was my favorite but after rewatching the sequels Planet is still the best. I had tons of ape souveniers everything ranging from bubble gum cards to plasti models and yes, even an attempt at ape makeup one Halloween which actually came out quite well. However I'm sorry to say all of that neat stuff is gone or lost over the years. I do have a question for you. Do you know how I might get a copy of the Behind the Planet of the Apes video? Is there really a new movie coming out? I remember as a kid my parents taking me to an amusement park. They had a Planet of the Apes ride where you sat in a saucer then the apes would come in and take over the ship. I remember balling my ey s out in fear as one of the apes approached me. My parents didn't understand why I was so scared, because at home I was always playing with the ape toys I had and always wanted to stay up an hour past my bed time to watch the show.
